Why staying in a private rental "Casa Particular" instead of a hotel while in Cuba?
Answer is simple....
Because staying at a resort robs you of the chance to experience authentic Cuban culture.
"Casa Particular" is the spanish term for private home. Cuban goverment allow its citizens to pay a monthly fee to retain a license to rent rooms out to tourists.
Aside being super cheap you'll get to know first-hand what life is like for the average Cuban, also local operators like us can direct you to places not listed in an official guidebook and we can give you practical tips such as areas to avoid and scams to watch for.
Depending on how long you stay, Casa Particulares's owners may even start to treat you like a good friend or member of the family, and welcome the idea of meeting people and hearing their stories, especially in Cuba.
The thought of staying in a resort and see food presented in North American style is the last thing many of you want for your vacations because is something you see every day, it's also a great way to meet other like-minded travelers.
Such thinhg will make your trip special and it's something that you'd never expirienced by staying in a resort.
What are Casas Particularers like?
Conditions of Casas Particulares vary. As you are in Cuba you'll find the accommodations have a wide variety of differences betwen them, that makes every single Casa Particular unique.
Mostly includes towels, bedding, hot water, kitchen facilities and breakfast, your room generally have a private entrance and private bathroom. Please check every house detail before booking and contact us for more specifications.
How do I know it's a licensed Casa Particular?
This sign represents cuban goverment's official licence for real estate renting.
Varaderonice.com only works with certified owners who posses this licence in order to assure legality.

All goverment licensed Casas Particulares display a universally used sign advertising they have rooms to rent.
NEVER STAY IN CASA PARTICULAR THAT DOES NOT HAVE THIS SIGN. That would be considered an illegal action by the Cuban goverment and you and the place owner may find yourself in serious trouble.
Can I bring a girl or guy with me to a Casa Particular?
Usually yes but... It depends...
It's not at all inappropiate to bring a local to a Casa Particular for a night as long as you behave correctly. Casa Particulares owners usually will ask for I.D. for security reasons and will register them as visitors at no cost.. but even though you're a paying guest, you're staying in someone's home. Be respectful.
When booking one of our Casas Particulares please check if there's "Compannion Allowed" in the house details, this will assure you book a place where visitors are allowed.

Also you will need to show a registered accommodation address (all our Casas Particulares are licensed and registered) in immigration control entering Cuba and you'll be subject to an accommodation follow-up checking by the time you will be departuring Cuba.
